CALL TO ARMS 2003
May 2-4, 2003

The Pacific...the peaceful ocean. So named by a Spanish explorer who had no idea that it contained the most powerful storms in the world. Or the carnage that had been and would be committed by man on the so-called peaceful waters.

THE DUKE CAME
TO KANSAS CITY!

Yes, Duke Seifried, the P.T. Barnum of wargaming, returned, after a long absence, to grace Heart of America HMGS's Call To Arms convention with his presence and put on a game!

SHOCK & AWE:
THE FIRST SIEGE OF BABYLON
Presented by Duke Seifried

The year is 648 BC. A substantial Assyrian army has successfully driven the confederation to the very gates of the great city. This battle will decide history.

This was a huge game played on a thiry-foot long table.

Everyone who put on a game at CTA 2003 received a $10 gift certificate from Renaissance Ink that they ccould then cash in at the show or on their website.

If they put on a game based on our theme, THE PACIFIC, they received cash back on their admission!

Ancients Tournaments at CTA 2003!

We had the big three: Warhammer Ancient Battles, Warrior and DBM! Check our Ancients Page for all the details!

All major campaigns were possible, as well as any new ones one could have thought of! Similar enough to Axis & Allies so it was easily played by those familiar with A&A. This was a long game. Players could be in it for the long haul or just for one day's session. Players could join in once the game was started replacing those who left. Game ran from 6pm to close Friday, 9am till close Saturday (with breaks for lunch & dinner) and finished on Sunday. Another example of how everything good started here in KC. We first saw this game almost 20 years ago at the first Command-Con here in KC. Not two years later Hasbro steals it to make Axis & Allies.

Historically, the Russians were forced to retreat back to Port Arthur after some initial success. Can YOU do better than Vitgeft? Or, as Togo, can you repeat the success that resulted in a second Russian fleet being sent and destroyed at Tsushima ten months later?

A few organizational wrinkles were observed: Sparabaras and Auxibaras with spears in front and bows behind! Kalapani cart-mounted archers...yesterday's Panzer grenadiers? Midianite massed bowmen (often two to a camel..sort of mounted infantry with smelly beasts that horses don't like). Amelakite light-camel skirmishers. Played on a thirty-foot long table. Played until, at least, 4pm. Players experienced in DBA received the major commands, but no experience was necessary. At least 10 players were needed and up to 20 could be accommodated.
