British
and French Ironclads Battle
Scale: 1:1100
Rules: 1881 Naval Rules for Franco-British War
Players: 4-6
Time: 3 hours
During the recent unpleasant civil insurrection in the United
States, the superiority of ironclad ships was demonstrated to
the Europeans. Both British and French naval planners, who had
already produced early versions of ironclad warships, such as
the "Warrior" and the "Gloire", in the early
1860's, begin a naval arms race to control the seas. Alarmed by
the French threat to her historical naval supremecy, the British
Admiralty determines that a first strike is necessary to bloody
the Gallic nose and regain the upper hand on the ocean. But the
British won't have the advantage of a Lord Nelson and his superior
tactics as they did at Trafalger, 75 years earlier.
