THANKS FOR COMING TO...

BORDERWARS 2003
October 10th - 12th
Kansas City

FUTURE SHOCK

We hope everyone enjoyed our Futureshock/Victorian Science Fiction themed games.

Thanks to everyone who put on a game at the show. Special thanks to tournament directors, especially the new Flames of War and DBA tournaments.

Don't miss our next show...Call to Arms, April 30-May 2, 2004, held at the Best Western Inn & Conference Center, here in Kansas City.

FUTURE SHOCK!

Any conflict in which one side has a marked advantage over the other due to new technology or new tactics.

EXAMPLES:

  • Spanish conquest of America
  • European Colonial wars
  • The early Boer War
  • Italian invasions of Ethiopia & Libya
  • Viet Nam war of unification, 1946-1975
(no one said the advantage would guarantee a victory)
  • US Indian wars
  • The many invasions of Afghanistan, i.e. British, Russian, American

Future Shock also includes the potential early development of technologies and what their effect on warfare would be...or, to put it another way...

VICTORIAN SCIENCE FICTION!

Any conflict during the period of Queen Victoria's reign (1837-1901) which includes, in addition to a historical background, setting and participants, any one or more of the following qualifiers:

  • Martians
  • Lost/Secret Civilizations
  • Technology/Weapons being used before they were historically available
  • Dinosaurs
  • Aliens
  • Landtrains
  • Airships
  • Walkers

or action set on another planet, like MARS.

Examples:

  • Victorian armies with tanks and flying machines
  • Colonial wars on Mars

HAHMGS is secure enough in its historicalness not to be threatened by the latest fads in gaming. And we're not too proud to jump on board the latest giant walker to stomp across the face of miniature gaming.

So, get ready for flying gunboats, walkers, land ironclads, Martians, dinosaurs and gentlemen to invade Kansas City.

Everyone who puts on a theme game receives cash back on their admission!*

Discounts for this convention's theme games will be as follows:

Victorian Science Fiction - $10.00
Future Shock - $5.00

*To receive the Future Shock discount, gamemasters must provide an essay of at least 100 words explaining why their game qualifies under the category of Future Shock.

Essays should be typed or written neatly and preferably e-mailed to the convention director with details of your game.

Victorian Science Fiction gamemasters will receive their discount if they meet the qualifications listed above.

AND...as always, EVERYONE who puts on a game gets a $10 gift certificate from Renaissance Ink that they can cash in at the show or at their website!

This will be a skirmish game with players controlling groups of homesteading pioneers or woodland indian warbands. Landships, Walkers, Lizardmen and deathrays all compete for attention, but rest assured, the battle will be decided by iron nerve and cold steel!

Old Weird Harold's Old Games

. . . _ _ _ . . .

What the deuce was it? Shooting our men down!"

"Black," said the artist, "and like a fort. Not two hundred yards from the first trench."

He sought for comparisons in his mind.

"Something between a big blockhouse and a giant dish cover." he said.

And they were running!" said the war correspondent.

"You'd run if a thing like that, with a searchlight to help it, turned up like a prowling nightmare in the middle of the night."

In that flickering pallor it had the effect of a large iron-clad cruiser, crawling obliquely to the first line of trenches and firing shots out of the portholes in its side. And on it's carcass the bullets must have been battering with more than the passionate violence of hail on a roof of tin.
