Riots defend WTBL title.
Outlast Mooseheads in a hard fought seven game series.
Miami 1/1/2002 - The Miami Riots successfully defended their WTBL Championship title this past weekend in a very exciting seven game series against the Halifax Mooseheads. All seven games were played live over the internet using the Netplay component.
Halifax jumped to a 1-0 series lead with a five to one victory with Roger Clemens getting the win over Pedro Martinez. Miami then rallied back behind the right arm of Kevin Brown and a game two win sent the series to Halifax tied at one game a piece. Game three was an extra inning nail biter that Halifax pulled out in the bottom of the tenth with three straight singles. Game 4 was more like Miami was used to, Lots of offense, stellar pitching by Kevin Brown, and a 10-2 thrashing of the Mooseheads. Game 5 saw more stellar pitching by Kevin Brown and suddenly things were back in Miami's favor. Going back home with a three to two lead in the series, game six saw David Wells square off against Jeff Damico. The Halifax bats finally got hot and chased Damico in the seventh and then proceeded to beat up on a weak Riot bullpen on route to a nine to five series tying victory. Game seven was the rubber match between Pedro and Roger! Pedro was impeccable, yielding only a third inning two run homer to Todd Pratt. Roger wasn't much worse, he left with the game tied at two. In the seventh innings with men on second and third and two outs, Jeromy Burnitz lofted a soft liner that dropped in front of Bernie Williams and sent the Riots on Towards their second straight league championship. Pedro finished what he started and captured a 4-2 game seven victory.
